Canon named European Top Employer 2021
Canon named European Top Employer 2021 by Caroline Price
When faced with challenging situations, rays of light are always very welcome and our recent recognition as a European Top Employer in 2021 has certainly felt like a walk in the sunshine. It’s an excellent accolade that, in these most difficult times, is a huge boost to us all. You see, as an organisation, our values, goals and shared culture must carry us through good and hard times. Inspired and driven by our corporate philosophy of Kyosei – ‘living and working together for the common good’, they are the strong foundation from which we all undertake our roles. They keep us united and focused during times of great success, but more importantly, in times of great change.
As we are all well aware, the last year has reshaped the way we live, work, and communicate. It has presented extraordinary challenges in terms of looking after everybody’s wellbeing, but also in bringing employees together, helping them feel safe and supported, informed and productive. The happiness of our people at Canon, especially when our work and home lives now overlap, is more important than it has ever been.
So, in what is our fifth consecutive Top Employer Award, we are immensely proud to see our values of learning, wellbeing, ethics and integrity reflected back at us with formal recognition of the environment we provide. It’s an excellent testament to how our organisation values its employees and invests in developing careers now, but also our commitment to developing the experience of working at Canon in the long-term. For it to come at such a difficult time, where employee welfare sits front and centre of our minds, makes it all the more meaningful.
The Institute recognises, as we do, that an organisation is only as successful as the people within it and our Top Employer Institute certification comes as a result of an independent audit. We underwent an assessment of our Human Resources processes, investment in our people and the environment we provide, measuring them against international standards. Many companies around the world participate in and undergo the Institute’s rigorous assessment criteria and they state that certified Top Employers have a positive impact on the lives of around 7 million employees globally. It certainly fills me with great personal pride to know that our efforts and investment are contributing to that number and we will continue to do everything we can to make Canon a great place to work.
