Objectives & Challenges

Due to a rise in consumer demands, Livette’s faced pressures to overcome challenges including, faster turnaround times, colour consistency, and durability, while also maintaining high quality and the ability to personalise products.

Approach

Livette’s recognised the need for a cost-effective roll-to-roll printer that could offer the right combination of productivity and durability to futureproof its business, so installed a UVgel Wallpaper Factory to meet these needs.

Benefits

The UVgel Wallpaper Factory has increased efficiencies and broadened Livette’s product offering. With features such as special effects, it has opened up the possibilities to produce creative wallpapers to keep up with the latest trends in the market.

“The speed of a printer is really important so we can be competitive and, in the case of the Canon Colorado M5, it is as productive as two to three other printers.”

Delivering high-quality wallpapers

After noticing a gap in the Latvian wallpaper market in 2014, Liva and Janis Čudovs founded Livette’s Wallpaper company. The company produces high-quality, customisable wallpaper for commercial and residential clients mainly based in the US and Canada and, more recently, in the UK and Europe.

The need for reliable, efficient and long-lasting technology

As customer turnaround times increased, Livette’s recognised the need for a technology that could support it to increase the production and quality of its products and to capitalise on the latest trends in the market with special print effects.

With durability and speed at the forefront of its search, Livette’s invested in a Canon Colorado M5 roll-to-roll printer as part of the UVgel Wallpaper Factory. Designed for high-volume printing and offering a modular solution for mass-customised, fully automated wallpaper production, the UVgel Wallpaper Factory has enabled Livette’s to broaden its product offering to provide customers with a wide array of high-quality products.

“Durability and speed were the two things we were looking for in a printer and Canon was able to deliver them. We’re very happy with the performance of the Colorado and, what’s more, it’s a very cool-looking printer.”

The UVgel advantage

The combined benefits of the Colorado and UVgel technology with its odourless, instant-dry gel inks, which result in no smudging, made it an easy choice for the company and gave them the advantage of improved printing of intricate designs on wallpapers. Of particular importance to Livette’s was UVgel’s high durability and scratch resistance without any need for lamination, making it a very attractive and cost-effective solution.

The high speeds of up to 159m2 per hour of the modular Colorado M5, made it a strong choice for Livette’s. With the extra capacity the printer offered, the company was capable of meeting its goals to expand into other European markets, such as the UK.

“We’ve been producing wallpaper for almost ten years and our goal has been to grow and offer our customers the best quality. This is why we’re always searching for new ways to improve our products.”

A forward-thinking perspective

Liva and Janis are nurturing the company for the years ahead and have plans to keep growing Livette’s. Some of its latest innovations include a new metallic wallpaper range (gold, silver and pearl) that the company intends to produce on the Colorado. To help deliver the new product range, Livette’s plans to add a new white ink channel which can be upgraded onsite.

The UVgel Wallpaper Factory has also majorly increased productivity, and, as a result, Livette’s also has spare capacity to print wallpapers and products for other retailers as an additional revenue stream.
