Responding to declining subscriptions for Belgian church newspaper KERK&leven, its publisher and printer Halewijn wanted to boost reader engagement while cutting production costs. Its offset equipment was slow, inefficient, and couldn't print variable data – meaning that each local news section had to be produced in a separate run.
Acting on our advice, Halewijn invested in a digital platform and workflow solution, and an ColorStream series colour inkjet printer. This system was designed to increase productivity and reduce costs, while providing maximum scope for variable data printing.
As well as being more economical and less wasteful, the solution enabled Halewijn to improve reader loyalty by tailoring news content to each subscriber's address and target group. Halewijn also used its digital platform to create a new company that creates short run personal newspapers.
